The OKWU Women's Volleyball team looked to continue their strong start to the 2020 season as they hit the road to Moore, Oklahoma for a Tri-Match against the Arlington Baptist University Patriots at 4:00 PM and then the Randall University Saints at 6:00 PM.
In the first match against the Patriots, the Eagles were able to gain control of the match early and never looked back. The would go on to win the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-13. Arlington Baptist made various runs in the third set, but OKWU was able to lock in and fend off their attacks. The Eagles would go on to secure the match with a 25-18 third set victory.
Ashley Cook finished with her 2020 season game high 5 aces along with 14 assists and 4 digs. Nicole Bott added in 2 more aces of her own while collecting 15 assists. Bobana Marusic helped secure the back line on defense as she had 16 digs. Laine Alves led the OKWU attack as she was all over the court with 9 kills, 10 digs, and 4 blocks.
In the second match, the Eagles would find themselves down in the match early as they dropped the first set to the Saints by a score of 22-25. They would quickly bounce back winning the next two sets by a score of 25-16. OKWU continued to roll in the final set winning 25-17 to secure the 3-1 match victory.
The Eagles finished the match with 17 aces and a .412 attacking percentage. Bott continued her strong play from the match before as she set the OKWU offense in motion with 15 assists and 6 service aces in the second match. Riley Roth led the Eagles attack as she finished the match with 10 kills. Taylor Voight and Riley Barrick also added in 9 and 8 kills respectively. Laine Alves helped lock down the defense for the match as she collected 12 digs with 6 kills of her own.
With the tri-match sweep, the Eagles now improve their season record to 8-1 on the year. They are back in action on Saturday, October 3rd as they will take on the Bethel College Threshers on the road for a 1:00 PM KCAC showdown.
