On Saturday night the KCAC women's volleyball Tournament kicked off with four 1st round matches. The Lady Eagles recieved the #10 seed and would be taking on the #7 seeded Lady Warriors of Sterling College. During the regular season the Eagles and Warriors both went 1-1, with each match going the distance with 5 sets being played.
In the 1st set the Lady Eagles really set the tone as they were able to create a sizable lead that the Warriors were just not able to overcome and OKWU would take the 1st set 25-15. The second set was a different story, as this set would see the Eagles securing the 2-0 by a set score of 30-28! Now with a 2-0 lead in the match, the Lady Eagles were in the drivers seat as they looked to possibly sweep the match. The Lady Eagles would do just that as they would seal the deal in the 3rd set 25-23.
In the match on the offensive side of things, Autumn Tanton-Neighbors and Kenadee Valdez would lead in kills with 9 a piece and Ashley Cook would lead with 20 assists. On the defensive end, Kenadee Valdez and Lauren McKinney would lead in block assists with 3 and Bobana Marusic would lead with 22 digs.
The Lady Eagles are no stranger to the #10 seed and could possibly look to replicate the last #10 seeded tournament run they had. This run saw OKWU being one match away from being in the Conference championship match. The Lady Eagles next challenge will be to defeat the #2 seed McPherson Bulldogs. This match will take place Thursday, April 1st at 7:00pm in McPherson, Kansas.
