On Thursday night April 1st, the KCAC women's volleyball tournament continued with the quarterfinal round matches. The #10 seeded Lady Eagles had the underdog role as they would face the #2 seeded Lady Bulldogs of McPherson College. During the regular season the Bulldogs had the Eagles number as they swept the Eagles in both matchups, however, in the postseason anything can happen.

 

In the 1st set the Lady Eagles were able to let the Bulldogs know there would be no sweep this time around as OKWU was able to secure to first set 26-24. In second set the Bulldogs would not let dropping the first set affect them as they were able to take set 2 by a score of 25-23. The match would now be tied at a set a piece. In a match that would resemble that of a heavyweight fight, the Eagles and Bulldogs would exchange big momentum shifts in the next two sets. The Eagles would take the 3rd set 25-19, while the Bulldogs tied things up at 2 sets a piece in a 4th set 25-18 win. In an exciting match that deserved to see a 5th set, everyone in attendance would be treated to just that. Would the Bulldogs end the Eagles tourney run and show why they were the #2 seed or would the #10 seeded Eagles cheat the clock and play Cinderella for a little bit longer. In the 5th set we would see the Eagles dance just longer as they were able to down the Bulldogs 15-10.

 

In the match on the offensive side of things, Laine Alves would lead in kills with 14 followed by Kenadee Valdez and Lauren McKinney with 9 a piece. Nicole Bott would lead with 27 assists. On the defensive end, Valdez would lead in block assists with 10 followed by Makaila Keith, Autumn Tanton-Neighbors, and Lauren McKinney with 4 block assists. Bobana Marusic would lead with 23 digs.

 

The Lady Eagles have a shot at making tournament championship with a semifinal win. All that stands in their way in this semifinal match is the #6 seed, the St. Mary University Spires. This semifinal match will take place Friday, April 9th at 1:00pm at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kansas.

 

 

 

 

Tickets for KCAC Volleyball Championship Semifinals and Finals at Hutchinson Sports Arena will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Monday morning. The building will be cleared between semifinals and finals and we will scan tickets for both semis and finals. Below are the breakdowns of tickets:
