Lady Eagles Win Big in First game of Semester

After having their 2022 debut delayed a few days, the OKWU Lady Eagles proved they were more than ready for their season to resume on Saturday when they dominated Southwestern to earn their 9th win of the season.

Recap:

  • OKWU got out to a fast start, winning the first quarter by a 24-9 margin. The Lady Eagles made 4 shots from beyond the arc in the first period to pull away early, while their defense held Southwestern to just 23.5% shooting in the game's first 10 minutes.
  • Things only improved for OKWU in the second quarter, as they stormed to a big halftime lead behind a 24-3 run. They drilled 4 more 3-pointers in the second quarter and led 48-12 at halftime.
  • The Lady Eagles cooled off slightly in the third quarter, but they saw their lead expand to 69-26.
  • Southwestern finished the game strong, winning the fourth quarter 18-11 as the Lady Eagles did their job and put the game away. The final score was 80-44 as the Lady Eagles improved to 7-4 in the KCAC.

  • OKWU hit 11 3-pointers on the afternoon, shooting nearly 46% from downtown in an impressive shooting display.
  • The Lady Eagles defense forced Southwestern into committing 26 turnovers which led to 26 OKWU points.
  • The Lady Eagles put on an impressive passing display, garnering 21 assists on their 32 made field goals.
  • Brittan Garrett poured in a season-high 21 points for the Lady Eagles, shooting an impressive 8-12 from the field and 3-5 from downtown to go along with 5 steals on the defensive end.
  • Cierra Johnson was locked-in from the tip, shooting 5-6 from 3-point land to chip in 15 points for OKWU.
  • Zariah Tillman stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
  • MaKayla Watkins recorded 6 assists.
