OKWU Beats Sterling to Finish Regular Season

Box Score

In the final game of the regular season, the Eagles beat the Sterling Warriors by a 77-59 margin. After a sloppy start for both teams, the Eagles pulled away as the game went on to finish the regular season with a 28-2 record.

Recap:

  • Sterling turned the ball over 15 times in the first half as the Eagles defense put the pressure on early. On the offensive side of the ball, Brandon Bird led the way with 11 first half points. The Eagles led 36-29 at halftime.
  • OKWU proved too tough in the second half, scoring 41 points in the game's final frame and pulling away with an 18-point victory on Senior Day.

Now the Numbers:

  • OKWU forced 23 Sterling turnovers in the game, which the Eagles turned into 21 points off turnovers.
  • The Eagles scored 48 points in the paint, making up for a poor shooting night from beyond the arc (just 19.4% from deep for the game).
  • Bird's 17 points was a game high, while Jaden Lietzke added 12 points on 5-6 shooting to give the Eagles an important boost.
  • Derrick Talton Jr. had 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals in the game as his defensive pressure stymied the Sterling offense time after time.
