Lady Eagles Beat Tabor and Advance to KCAC Semis

The Lady Eagles saved their best for last in Wednesday's KCAC tournament matchup at Tabor, overcoming a 3-point deficit going into the fourth quarter to complete the comeback and defeat Tabor in the KCAC Quarterfinal matchup, 62-58.

Recap:

  • OKWU started the game strong, winning the first quarter 18-11. ShaRae Frazier led the way early with 6 points in the quarter, while the OKWU defense held Tabor to just 5 of 13 shooting in the game's first 10 minutes.
  • OKWU went cold in the second, shooting just 20% and scoring only 9 points in the period. Tabor cut into the OKWU lead, which was 27-24 going into halftime.
  • In the third quarter, Tabor found a strong offensive rhythm, shooting 55% in the period. OKWU trailed going into the third by 3 points.
  • OKWU responded in the final period, led by Zariah Tillman's 9 points. The Lady Eagles shot 64% in the game's final frame.
  • The final period was tight throughout. Each time Tabor tried to stretch the lead, OKWU responded on the other end. After taking a 5 point lead with under 5 minutes to go, OKWU's MaKayla Watkins drilled a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 52-50.
  • OKWU would take a 54-53 lead at the 2:50 mark when ShaRae Frazier hit a jumper off a Watkins assist.
  • Tillman and the Lady Eagles refused to give up the lead again. In the final 3 minutes of the game, Tillman scored 7 points to secure the victory, including some late free throws to salt the game away.

Now the Numbers:

  • OKWU scored 40 points in the paint, which proved important as the team struggled beyond the arc, hitting just 23% of their 3-pointers in the game.
  • OKWU hit 79% of their foul shots on the night, including some important ones late in the game to complete the comeback.
  • Frazier's 15 points and 12 rebounds gave her another double-double, her second in the last 3 games. Sydnee Schovanec scored 10 points and secured 6 boards in the win.
  • MaKayla Watkins dished 5 assists to lead the Lady Eagles.
