#25 Volleyball Advances to the KCAC Tournament Championship

The #25 Volleyball team hit the road for the weekend as they begin play in the KCAC Tournament on November 10th. Entering the tournament as the #1 seed, the Lady Eagles looked to face off against the Tabor College Lady Bluejays for the KCAC Tournament Quarterfinal for their first game on Friday morning! Needed to defeat Tabor in order to advance, the Lady Eagles did so, making way to the Semi-Final against the fifth seeded, Ottawa University Lady Braves.

KCAC Tournament Quarterfinal v. Tabor College Lady Bluejays

               Starting off game play in Hutchinson, the Lady Eagles and Lady Bluejays were head to head through thte first 9 points of play. With a 9-8 in the first set, favoring the Lady Bluejays, the Eagles then went on a 17-0 run in order to take the 1st set. Coming off a 17-point run, the Lady Eagles were headed for smooth sailing, winning the second set 21-25. With the second set being closer than the first, the Lady Eagles needed all their energy to take the third set in order to advance in the tournament. Doing just that, the Lady Eagles came out fierce, outscoring the Lady Bluejays 25-11 and sweeping them in 3 sets the Lady Eagles advanced to the KCAC Semi-Final later that day!

Evelyn Rohrberg had another stellar performance with 20 kills against the Bluejays. Joining Rohrberg, Sydney Collins earned herself 36 assists to lead the Lady Eagles. Maria Luisa Caycedo lead the Lady Eagles defensively with 12 digs, following closely were Anjela Micunovic and Valeria Perez both with 8.

KCAC Tournament Semi-Final v. Ottawa University Lady Braves

               The rematch that the Lady Eagles had been waiting all season for. Taking on the Ottawa Braves, the only team that took a game from the Lady Eagles in regular season called for rematch! Starting off a back and forth battle, the Lady Eagles were able to pull ahead in the 9th point and never look back. Defeating the Braves 25-20 in the first set allowed the Lady Eagles to find the energy and give them momentum to progressively get better and better. Entering the second set with a set lead, the Lady Eagles were smooth and united, coming together and taking the 2nd set 25-15. They weren't done yet, having their best set in the 3rd, the Lady Eagles held the Braves to only 11 points and swept the Braves in order to advance to the KCAC Tournament Championship.

               An all-around effort from the Lady Eagles led to this successful game. Evelyn Rohrberg ended the 3 set victory with 21 kills, Daisy Scott had 10, and Makaila Keith had 13. Sydney Collins was absolutely superb against the Braves, ending the game with 47 assists, 23 digs, and 1 kill. Defensively for the Lady Eagles, Collins lead her team with 23 digs, but Maria Luisa Caycedo was on fire with 21 digs. Following closely behind Caycedo was Anjela Micunovic with 18.

The Lady Eagles are set to face off with the Kansas Wesleyan University Lady Coyotes in the KCAC Tournament Championship tomorrow at 2:00 PM!
