The #7 Men's Basketball team were back in Bartlesville November 11th after a 3-game road trip prior to. Getting back on their home court with a Top 15 match-up against the #12 Mid-America Nazarene Pioneers, the Eagles looked to keep their win streak alive and show up and show out.
The beginning of the game was a frequent back and forth battle, as one team overtook the other over and over again. This was until Dylan Phillip made a 3-point shot, giving the Eagles the 4-6 lead in the 4th minute, allowing the Eagles to find momentum. This was the last time the Eagles trailed through the remainder of the game, keeping their opponent close and attempting to take crucial shots to stay ahead. Ending the first half with a 47-36 lead, the Eagles were comfortable and consistent.
Entering the second half with an 11-point lead, the Eagles needed to keep the pace fast and maintain strong possessions that lead to scoring drives. Doing so, the Eagles were able to maintain a 10-point lead throughout a majority of the 2nd half, until the Pioneers rallied together to lessen their deficit to only 5 points with 6 minutes left of play. With only 3 minutes left of play, the Eagles took control of the half and added to their lead, ending the game 75-60.
A key component to the Eagles success were their ability to draw fouls in order to shoot free throws. Making 25 of the 40 free throw attempts, the Eagles added to their lead continuously through the game. Derrick Talton Jr. is proving to be an all-around superb player for the Eagles, having himself a game with 23 points, 5 steals, 7 rebounds, and going 9-10 from the free throw line. Dylan Phillip and Jaden Lietzke both put up 11 points on the night, while Kaleb Stokes accumulated 12 rebounds.
