The Women's Basketball team was back on their home court for a KCAC match-up against the York University Lady Panthers on December 9th. Heading into the match-up 2-8, the Lady Eagles looked to gain momentum through the 40 minutes and add to their win column.
A slow start to the first quarter, both teams were unable to put points on the board until 2 minutes into the game. Scoring first, the Lady Eagles started the game off and rallied through the 1st quarter with a back and forth battle against the Lady Panthers. Ending the first quarter 23-12 in favor of the Lady Panthers, the Lady Eagles needed to make up ground in order to stay in the game. Doing just that, the Lady Eagles opened up the second quarter with an 8-0 run, bringing them to only a 2 point deficit with 6 minutes to go in the half. The Lady Panthers were quick to the punch after the 8-0 run, making way to a 37-33 lead in favor of the Lady Panthers heading into the second half.
Heading into the second half trailing, the Lady Eagles looked to continue their strong offensive 2nd quarter and regain ground on the Lady Panthers. Doing so, the Lady Eagles cut the score to 46-40 with 4 minutes left in the 3rd, and leading up to a 6 point deficit. After multiple Lady Eagle fouls, the Lady Panthers were able to score 6 points off free throws, enabling them to gain a 7 point lead with a minute left in the 3rd. Ending the 3rd with a score of 57-46, the Lady Eagles needed to push their offense to their best quarter yet.
With the Lady Eagles unable to score until 6:25 in the 4th, the Lady Panthers were able to gain more ground on the Lady Eagles. At 5:20 left in the game, Gracie Alexander shifted the momentum of the game with a quick paced 3 pointer for the Lady Eagles, followed by a turnover by the Lady Panthers soon after.
With a low scoring 4th quarter, the Lady Eagles fell to the Lady Panthers 71-52. Rashaan Smith made offensive and defensive moves throughout her limited time on the court with 12 points and 9 rebounds.
