The #7 Men's Basketball team was on the road on Saturday, January 20th against the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes. This was an extremely important game for both teams as both teams entered the game with a record of 10-1 in KCAC play. Both teams were playing for first place in the KCAC.
The Eagles started the game hot, scoring 11 points in just over the first 3 minutes of the game. However, the Coyotes quickly responded, and their offense took off. The Coyotes made 9 three-pointers in the first half, resulting in them scoring 49 points in the first half. Although the Eagle offense was strong in scoring 39 points, they would have to change some things going into the second half of the game.
The Eagles looked to play to their strength and let their defense do what it does best. After making another 3 pointer at the beginning of the second half, the Eagles would not give up another for the rest of the game. In the span of 14 minutes, the Eagles held the Coyotes to 5 points, while their offense scored 29 points. Although the Eagles gave up 49 points in the first half, they dominated the second half, resulting in an 82-66 win to give the Eagles the #1 spot in the KCAC.
Jaden Lietzke was fantastic for the Eagles. Lietzke led the Eagles with an impressive 23 points and a season-high 16 rebounds. Kaleb Stokes followed suit and scored 15 points and 10 rebounds, resulting in 2 Eagles having double-doubles.
