The Lady Eagles were on their home court on January 23rd for a KCAC match-up against the McPherson College Lady Bulldogs. Coming off an exciting win, the Lady Eagles looked to keep the strong momentum going with their game over the Lady Bulldogs.
Starting off on top, the Lady Eagles were the first to score over the Ladies Bulldogs with a shot from Jaelen Glass in the 2nd minute of play. The lead didn't last long as the Lady Bulldogs scored back to back in over to make it a 4-3 game in their favor in the 4th minute. Fighting back immediately with a shot beyond the arc from Haley Meely, the Lady Eagles were back on top 6-4. Looking to move the ball, the Lady Eagles were able to push the lead 13-7 with the work of 4 Lady Eagles off the bench. Closing the 1st quarter with a 10-point lead, the Lady Eagles have an impressive 19-point quarter.
Maintaining pressure on the Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Eagles took led the game 27-14 5 minutes into the second quarter and looked strong on both sides of the court. Looking to fight back, the Lady Bulldogs pushed the pace and cut their deficit to 32-25 with 11 seconds left in the 2nd quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs were quickly back in action the second half, cutting their deficit and taking the game to a 34-34 drive against the Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles reacted to the cut deficit with a strong drive 5 minutes in, taking the lead back with a score of 38-36 with the help of Zariah Tillman. A back and forth ball game from that point forward, the Eagles maintained the lead by 1 point with 9 minutes left in the final quarter of play.
A tied ball game with 8 minutes left, the Lady Eagles looked to take back momentum and drive the ball to the pain in order to score. McPherson took a 47-44 lead with a shot beyond the arc in the 3rd minute of the 4th quarter, forcing the Lady Eagles to a necessary faster pace. Jaelen Glass pushed past the Lady Bulldog defense with a shot in the paint and a free throw, tying the game back up with a score of 47-46 with 7:32 left on the clock. Taking the lead 49-52, the Lady Bulldogs were quick to the punch until Haley Meely shot beyond the arc, bringing the Lady Eagles to a 52-52 tied game once again.
With 1:30 left in the game, the Lady Eagles and Lady Bulldogs both continued to battle with a tied 54-54 game. Putting the Lady Eagles ahead, Zariah Tillman scores a layup, followed by a steal from Tillman, then another layup; giving the Lady Eagles the 58-55 lead. The Lady Eagles took the victory from the Lady Bulldogs in an exciting fashion and improve in the conference standings with the win.
Haley Meely and Zariah Tillman were superb for the Lady Eagles throughout their time on the court, combining for 34 of the Lady Eagles 58 points.
