The #4 Men's Basketball team was back on their home court for a KCAC match-up against the McPherson College Bulldogs on January 24th at 8:00 PM. The Eagles looked to maintain a top standing in the KCAC and extend their win streak with a win over the Bulldogs.
Starting off on top, the Eagles were the first to score with a layup from Jaden Lietzke in the first 30 seconds of play. With a 9-5 lead 7 minutes into the game, both teams pushed the pace and looked strong defensively. With a new set of 5 in, the Eagles took their biggest lead yet, 11-7 and looked to drive the ball into the paint and extend the gap. A quick comeback from the Bulldogs brought the game to a two-point difference and eagerness to score from both teams. A quick 1-2 punch from Dylan Phillip led to a 14-9 lead in favor of the Eagles as Phillip proves to be a strong shooter for the Eagles.
With 9:27 left in the 1st half, Talen Miller took the lead 19-12 with a shot behind the arc, assisted by DJ Talton Jr. Extending the lead with 6 minutes left, the Eagles looked to pick up their pace in order to make it a 22-12 lead over the Bulldogs. A following scoreless 2 minutes from the Eagles enabled the Bulldogs to cut the 10-point deficit 24-17 with 4:35 left on the clock. With 1:30 left in the first half, DJ Talton Jr. and Kaleb Stokes were able to put together a scoring drive in order to make the game 32-21 in favor of the Eagles. Capping the first half with a 32-23 lead, the Eagles needed to come out of the locker room firing.
A jump shot in the paint from Talton Jr. allowed the Eagles to score first in the second half; followed up by a quick push back from the Bulldogs with a shot beyond the arc. Jaden Wilson entered the game in the 4th minute, immediately earning himself a steal and leading to a scoring drive in favor of the Eagles. Working well off the bench, Jaden Wilson and Amari Woods scored quickly for Eagles resulting in a 38-28 game.
A fairly close battle between the two, the Eagles led 53-44 with 6:40 left on the clock. Looking to get the ball into the paint, the Eagles scored 4 more in the next 2 minutes making it a 57-47 game in their favor. Extending the game, Talton Jr. took the game to 60 with a steal then a fast break layup in order to help the Eagles.
A 10 point game with 30 seconds left allows the Eagles to earn their 18th win on the season. 3 Eagles were in double digits, DJ Talton Jr. (20PTS), Jaden Lietzke (14 PTS), Dylan Phillip (10 PTS).
