The #4 Men's Basketball team was home on January 27th for a KCAC rematch with the Bethany College Swedes. Looking to defeat the Swedes once again, the Eagles started out quick and brought the energy to the 40-minute contest.
Starting extremely fast, the Eagles were able to take a quick lead over the Swedes and continue to push forward as the first half went on. Outscoring the Swedes 49-26, the Eagles were on fire. Leading the Eagles throughout the first half, Jaden Lietzke was 5-8 from the paint and 12 points in 14 minutes. Dylan Phillip always started off the game on a high note with 10 points in the first half, going 2-4 beyond the arc and 4-6 overall.
Slowing down in the second, the Eagles scored 31 points in the final 20 minutes of play; giving way to a 39-point half from the Swedes. This did not affect the Eagles final score due to such an explosive first half offensively. Taking the game from the Swedes 80-65, the Eagles were able to keep their win streak alive and move further into the end of conference play.
Jaden Lietzke was outstanding for the Eagles, scoring 19 points, accumulating 6 rebounds and went a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line. Dylan Phillip was right behind Lietzke with 10 points scored in 20 minutes of play. Coming off the bench for the Eagles, Nick Bene and Gunnar Gordon were a quick 1-2 punch, scoring 19 points combined and accumulating 8 rebounds.
