The Women's Basketball team took their home court for the final time this season as they went to face off against the Avila University Lady Eagles, as well as to celebrate their 3 seniors on senior day. Looking to find a way into the conference tournament later on in the month, the Lady Eagles were eager to get another conference win under their belt and find success in late season.
Starting off the game with a successful tip-off from senior, Esperanza Graham; the Lady Eagles gained a quick possession and went on to score early in the first quarter. A back and forth 1st quarter resulted in the Lady Eagles trailing 15-10 to Avila and a need to find momentum in the second quarter. In need of energy, Zariah Tillman stepped up and scored 6 of the 11 Lady Eagles points in the second quarter for the Lady Eagles, but the team was still unable to outscore Avila as they scored 14 in the second. As the first half ended they lady Eagles trailed Avila 29-21 and looked to find change in the locker room.
Heading into the 3rd quarter trailing, the Lady Eagles came out of the locker room explosive and determined to find rhythm. Having their best quarter in the 3rd, the Lady Eagles went on to score 23 points in the 10 minutes of play, led by senior Ty'Najah Mitchell with 8 points. A 46-42 lead from the Lady Eagles and 10 minutes to go, the Lady Eagles defense and offense were smooth; shutting down Avila's offense and taking advantage of their time on the floor. The Lady Eagles fought through the 4th and ended the game with a win over Avila 57-50.
Leading the Lady Eagles, Haley Meely was once again consistent with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Zariah Tillman and Ty'Najah Mitchell were right behind Meely with a combined 22 points on the night.
