OKWU men's soccer team continued its undefeated season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Westcliff University in the NAIA Opening Round, securing their spot in the National Sweet 16 final site located in Orange Beach, Alabama.
The Eagles wasted no time asserting dominance, as Santiago Mejia found the back of the net just 1:38 into the match, giving OKWU an early lead. The Eagles maintained control, outshooting Westcliff 7-2 before the break.
In the second half, OKWU's pressure paid off again. Luis Vergara doubled the lead in the 79th minute, finishing a well-placed assist from Alejandro Aleman Lopez. Just three minutes later, Vergara struck again from the penalty spot, sealing the win.
Defensively, the Eagles were rock-solid. Goalkeeper Marko Rodic recorded three saves to preserve the clean sheet, while the backline limited Westcliff to just 3 shots on goal the entire game. OKWU dominated statistically, leading in shots 13-5 and corner kicks 6-2.
With this win, OKWU improves to 19-0-3 on the season and advances past the Opening Round brackets to the NAIA National Tournament Final site, where they'll look to continue their championship pursuit. Go Eagles!
