Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Oklahoma Wesleyan Escaped Lindsborg With a Hard-Fought 83-81 Road Victory Over Bethany College

Overcoming a slow start and a three-point halftime deficit to secure another conference win of the season, the Eagles relied on balanced scoring, timely defensive stops, and a strong second-half push. OKWU displayed grit throughout the game to outlast a Bethany team that shot an impressive 53.8% from beyond the arc. Despite trailing 44-41 at the break, OKWU responded with a composed and efficient second half, outscoring the Swedes 42–37 to seal the narrow win.

Temaje Izuagbe once again led the Eagles with 18 points, adding four rebounds, two assists, and three blocks while going a perfect 5-for-5 at the free-throw line. Ethan Williams delivered a steady two-way performance with 15 points, five rebounds, and two assists, while Yashi McKenzie added eight points and three assists. Nick Bene contributed six points and four rebounds.

OKWU's bench made a major impact, combining for 34 points and helping shift momentum throughout the game. Jaden Wilson scored nine points on 4-of-5 shooting, while Blake Hamblin added eight points and five rebounds in 20 strong minutes. Nathaniel Law continued his efficient stretch of play with eight points on 3-of-4 shooting, and Marshall Gillette chipped in three points and solid interior defense.

Bethany stayed competitive behind a standout performance, knocking down 14 triples as a team and holding a 14-point lead early in the first half before OKWU's depth and defensive adjustments began to take effect. The Eagles tightened their coverage on the perimeter, forced 20 turnovers, and turned those mistakes into 18 points, an essential factor in a game decided by just two.

Despite shooting only 3-for-14 from three, OKWU compensated with 52 points in the paint and a 35-25 rebounding advantage. The Eagles also shot 51.6% from the field in the second half, attacking the rim with purpose and generating high-percentage looks. Their largest lead came at the 12:44 mark of the second half, but Bethany continued to battle, trading baskets until the final minute.

The Eagles will look to build on this gritty road performance as they prepare for their next matchup against Spurgeon in a non-conference matchup at home on January 5th at 7:00 PM. Go Eagles!
