No. 17 Lady Eagles Dominate Bethany in a 7-0 Win

Women's Soccer

LINDSBORG, Kan. – Oklahoma Wesleyan University women's soccer delivered a dominant performance Saturday evening, October 24, cruising past Bethany College with a decisive 7-0 victory in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) action. Behind an explosive offensive attack, relentless pressure in the attacking third, and a disciplined defensive effort, the Lady Eagles controlled the match from the opening whistle to secure another conference victory.

Oklahoma Wesleyan wasted little time establishing its offensive rhythm, finding the back of the net just over two minutes into the contest. Vanessa Krumbholz opened the scoring in the third minute, finishing an attacking sequence set up by Isabelle Simoneau to give the Lady Eagles an early 1-0 advantage.

The Lady Eagles continued to dictate possession and generate quality scoring opportunities, doubling their lead in the 18th minute when Ashley Perez capitalized on another assist from Simoneau. Less than two minutes later, Alexis Aguirre extended the advantage to 3-0, converting a scoring opportunity created by Frederikke Nielsen.

Oklahoma Wesleyan maintained its attacking intensity throughout the opening half, consistently pushing numbers forward and keeping the Bethany back line under pressure. Krumbholz completed her brace in the 39th minute with her second goal of the match, before Simoneau added her name to the scoresheet in the 42nd minute. Assisted by Perez and Krumbholz, Simoneau's finish sent the Lady Eagles into the halftime break holding a commanding 5-0 advantage.

The Eagles' first-half dominance was reflected in the statistics, as OKWU registered 23 shots and eight corner kicks while preventing Bethany from recording a single shot through the opening 45 minutes.

Coming out of the break, Oklahoma Wesleyan continued to control the tempo, maintaining possession and creating opportunities through organized build-up play and attacking movement. Taylor Welker provided an additional offensive spark in the 68th minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from Kendall Guidroz to extend the lead to 6-0.

Welker struck again in the 75th minute, completing her brace and putting the finishing touches on an impressive seven-goal performance for the Lady Eagles.

Krumbholz and Welker led the Oklahoma Wesleyan attack with two goals apiece, while Simoneau delivered an outstanding all-around performance, contributing one goal and two assists. Perez added a goal and an assist, while Aguirre also found the scoresheet. Nielsen and Guidroz each contributed an assist, highlighting the Lady Eagles' balanced offensive production.

Defensively, Oklahoma Wesleyan was equally impressive, limiting Bethany to just one shot throughout the entire 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Alessandra Martinez recorded one save to preserve the clean sheet, while the Lady Eagles' defensive unit consistently disrupted the Swedes' attacking opportunities and maintained control of the midfield.

As a team, Oklahoma Wesleyan outshot Bethany 34-1, placing 15 attempts on frame while holding a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Lady Eagles' ability to generate consistent attacking pressure while maintaining defensive organization demonstrated their effectiveness on both sides of the pitch.

With the victory, Oklahoma Wesleyan improves to 12-2-3 overall and 11-0-1 in KCAC play, remaining unbeaten in conference competition. The commanding road performance further strengthens the Lady Eagles' position as they approach the final stretch of the regular season.

Oklahoma Wesleyan will look to carry its offensive momentum and defensive discipline into its remaining conference fixtures as the Lady Eagles continue their pursuit of postseason success and prepare for the upcoming KCAC Tournament.
