No. 12 Eagles Shut Out Tabor at Home

Men's Soccer

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Oklahoma Wesleyan University Men's Soccer put together a commanding performance on its home pitch Saturday afternoon, controlling the run of play from start to finish in a 4-0 shutout victory over Tabor College. The Eagles struck twice in each half and dominated possession in the attacking third to improve to 7-1-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

OKWU established its attacking presence immediately, pushing numbers forward and pinning the Bluejays deep inside their defensive third. The pressure produced the breakthrough in the 14th minute when Ronardo Burgher found the back of the net at the 13:47 mark, putting the Eagles in front, 1-0.

Oklahoma Wesleyan continued to dictate the tempo throughout the opening 45 minutes, circulating the ball through the midfield and creating repeated opportunities around the Tabor penalty area. The Eagles doubled their advantage in the 37th minute when Jovan Jovicic converted a chance off an assist from Eguzki Hashimoto, sending OKWU into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles came out of the break with no intention of taking their foot off the gas.

Just over five minutes into the second half, Burgher turned provider, setting up Marcos Vidan for OKWU's third goal at the 50:53 mark. Less than two minutes later, Hashimoto added his name to the scoresheet, finishing in the 53rd minute to stretch the advantage to 4-0 and effectively put the match out of reach.

Oklahoma Wesleyan's attack kept the Tabor back line under constant pressure throughout the full 90 minutes. The Eagles generated a staggering 30 total shots, placing 15 on frame, while Tabor managed just one shot in the entire match. OKWU also earned a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks, another indication of the Eagles' sustained presence in the attacking third.

While the attack supplied four goals, Oklahoma Wesleyan's defensive shape was equally impressive. The Eagles' back line denied Tabor space in dangerous areas, disrupted counterattacking opportunities and allowed only one attempt on goal. OKWU's goalkeeper was called upon for just one save as the Eagles secured another clean sheet.

The victory also featured a balanced offensive effort. Burgher played a role in two of OKWU's four goals with a goal and an assist, while Hashimoto contributed a goal and an assist of his own. Jovicic and Vidan supplied the other two finishes as the Eagles showcased their ability to create scoring chances from multiple areas of the pitch.

OKWU finished the afternoon with a 30-1 advantage in shots, 15-1 edge in shots on goal and 10-0 advantage in corners. Tabor's goalkeeper was forced into 11 saves as the Eagles relentlessly tested the Bluejay defense.

Saturday's performance was another complete showing from Oklahoma Wesleyan, combining clinical finishing with suffocating defensive pressure. With four goals, a clean sheet and control of the match from the opening whistle to the final horn, the Eagles collected another three points and continued building momentum through the heart of their conference schedule
