No. 14 Lady Eagles Roll Past Bethel 7-0

Women's Soccer

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — Oklahoma Wesleyan University Women's Soccer continued its strong run through conference play Saturday morning, putting together a complete performance on both ends of the pitch in a commanding 7-0 victory over Bethel College (Kan.). The Lady Eagles struck twice in the opening half before breaking the match open with five second-half goals, improving to 5-2-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in KCAC action.

Oklahoma Wesleyan established possession early and consistently worked the ball into dangerous areas of the attacking third. The pressure paid off in the 15th minute when Kayla Herrera opened the scoring off a feed from Ana Chaves, giving OKWU the early 1-0 advantage. The Lady Eagles continued to dictate the tempo, using their width and movement off the ball to stretch the Bethel back line.

The breakthrough continued in the 37th minute. Maddyn Walker found the back of the net with Chaves once again providing the final pass, sending Oklahoma Wesleyan into the halftime break with a 2-0 advantage. The Lady Eagles generated 18 shots in the opening 45 minutes while limiting Bethel to just one attempt, a reflection of OKWU's control in both possession and territory.

Coming out of the interval, the Lady Eagles wasted little time putting the match out of reach. Frederikke Nielsen made it 3-0 in the 52nd minute after combining with Isabelle Simoneau. Less than two minutes later, Simoneau turned provider again, setting up Chaves for OKWU's fourth goal of the morning. Chaves finished the contest with one goal and two assists, playing a major role in the Lady Eagles' creativity going forward.

Oklahoma Wesleyan maintained its relentless pressure as the second half progressed. Vanessa Krumbholz joined the scoring in the 61st minute, finishing a chance created by Herrera. Just over two minutes later, Ashley Perez pushed the margin to 6-0 after receiving a feed from Mesa Broquard.

The final goal came in the 74th minute when Taylor Welker found the back of the net, putting the finishing touch on an impressive seven-goal afternoon. Seven different Lady Eagles scored in the victory, demonstrating the depth and balance of an OKWU attack that consistently created opportunities across the full 90 minutes.

The Lady Eagles' dominance was also evident on the stat sheet. Oklahoma Wesleyan finished with a 29-4 advantage in shots, placing 18 attempts on frame, while holding Bethel without a single shot on goal. OKWU also earned all nine corner kicks in the match, repeatedly pinning the Threshers inside their defensive third.

Behind that pressure, the Oklahoma Wesleyan back line remained organized and disciplined. Goalkeeper Leona Kraus played the full 90 minutes as the Lady Eagles preserved the clean sheet, with the defense preventing Bethel from registering an effort on target.

With seven different goal scorers, six assists and another clean sheet, Oklahoma Wesleyan delivered a balanced performance from front to back. The Lady Eagles leave North Newton with three more points in hand and their perfect 4-0 KCAC record intact as they continue building momentum through the conference schedule.
