Gene Hartman

Gene Hartman has served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at OKWU since March 2015.

Hartman, a native of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, attended OKWU as a student from 2005 to 2009. During his time on campus, he was a four-year basketball player and spent one year throwing javelin. He was a member of the 2009 Eagles squad that won the MCAC regular-season and tournament championships and would go on to win the NAIA National Championship.

Hartman spent five seasons on the staff at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. While at Southwestern, he recruited, coached, and developed:

  • 5 All-Americans
  • 12 All-Conference selections
  • 4 All-Defensive team selections
  • 3 All-Freshman team selections
  • 1 Freshman of the Year
 
In 2015, he returned to OKWU to join the staff. He has continued to successfully recruit and develop players, including:
  • 14 All-Americans
  • 34 All-Conference players
  • 8 All-Defensive players
  • 5 All-Freshman selections
  • 2 Conference Player of the Year 
  • 4 Conference Defensive Player of the Year
  • 1 Newcomer of the Year
  • 2 Freshman of the Year
At OKWU, Hartman has coached one NAIA Elite 8 team (2022) four Sweet 16 teams (2018, 2020, 2021 and 2024), four KCAC Tournament champions (2017, 2020, 2022 and 2024), and four KCAC regular season champions (2019, 2022, 2023, 2024).

Hartman and his wife, Allee, have one son, Oaks, one daughter Griffey, and live in Dewey, OK.
