EAGLES GEORGIA BOUND FOR NAIA QUARTERFINALS

Box Score

On Thursday afternoon, the Bartelsville Bracket portion of the NAIA Opening Rounds kicked off. In this new COVID format, each pool played host to four teams compared to the three in the past. In this pool OKWU would be the #1 seed, Briar Cliff University the #2 seed, Southwestern Christian University the #3 seed, and Lincoln College the #4 seed. In the first match up we would see OKWU take on the Lynx of Lincoln College.

OKWU dominated possession and took the lead, just before half, when Luka Lukic, flicked a ball on in the box, to teammate Alfeu Bertini. "The time of the goal was a big lift before half." Veteran coach Peterson stated.  "Lincoln is a very good defensive team, and we knew they would work and grind.  I was important to go up in the first half for us." OKWU would control the game and put the nail in the coffin in the final minute, with Victor Crispim, carving up the defense and setting up, Freshman Luka Lukic, who finished his one on one chance. The Eagles now awaited the winner of Southwestern Christian Univeristy and Briar Cliff.

Briar Cliff would defeat Southwestern Christian by a score of 3-0, setting up the final match between the Eagles and Chargers with the chance of advancing to the final site located in Columbia County, Georgia on the line.

On Saturday, the Eagles and Chargers match would take place on a beautiful afternoon in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan took the lead off a Matheus Ferreira strike, in the 24th minute off an assist from Stefan Lukic. This goal from Ferreria would be the only damage the Eagles could do in the first half as the Eagles would battle to hold the lead going into half. OKWU upped the intensity in the second half and looked to step the pressure when Stefan Lukic, broke down the defense, setting up a Victor Crispim goal, to put the Eagles up 2-0. Lukic, the 2019 NAIA national player of the year, wasn't done assisting his teammates, as he would deliver two more, dishing out another assist to Luka Lukic in the 67th minute and the final one in the 78th minute, when Pol Mur Llorens curled in his first National Tournamnet goal in his career.

Oklahoma Wesleyan with the win over Briar Cliff University advances to Georgia, where they await the winner of St Thomas (Fl) and MidAmerica Christian Univeristy.
