The Women's Basketball team hosted the Friends University Lady Falcons tonight for their second KCAC match-up on the year. Looking to find some redemption after multiple hard-fought games, the Lady Eagles needed to be quick to the punch against their opponent.
Starting off slower than needed, the Lady Eagles trailed early as they closed out the first quarter 15-11. Turning up their defense, the Lady Eagles were impressive in the second quarter, holding the Lady Falcons to a minimal two-point quarter as they went to the locker room with a 22-17 lead.
With a small lead, the Lady Eagles continued to push the pace as they tried to keep the Lady Falcons out of the pain and keep themselves in reach of scoring high numbers. Scoring 14 in the third quarter allowed the Lady Eagles to keep a small lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play. A standout quarter from both teams, led to a tied ball game at the end of 40 minutes, forcing the first of two overtimes for the teams.
A fight to the finish gave way to a 1-point deficit for the Lady Eagles, as the Lady Falcons took a last second shot to secure the victory. A hard-fought loss, the Lady Eagles were impressive on the floor. Leading the Lady Eagles,
Shade Richardson was outstanding, scoring 23 points and going 3-4 beyond the arc; Richardson was a force for the Lady Eagles.
Rashaan Smith and
Zariah Tillman trailed closely behind Richardson, both ending their night with 13 points for the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Eagles are back in action this upcoming Saturday as they hit the road to Salina, Kansas to face off against the Kansas Wesleyan University Lady Coyotes.
