SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — Oklahoma Wesleyan University's men's and women's tennis teams finished their fall competition schedule on a high note Saturday, October 24, earning matching 7–0 victories over John Brown University. The Eagles established an early advantage in doubles and maintained their momentum throughout singles, with both squads moving to 1–0 in dual-match play. The road match up also offered valuable competitive opportunities across the rosters before the teams turn their attention toward preparation for the spring season.
Men's Tennis
The men's team put together a complete performance, combining consistent doubles results with six straight-set singles victories. All three doubles pairings recorded 6–2 wins, giving the Eagles the opening point and a strong foundation heading into singles. At No. 1,
Andreas Seidel and
Yassine Azehaf defeated Brady Dick and Lucas Borges Machado.
Helori Peron and
Raphael Alvado matched that result against Grant Hinkle and Will Prochazka at No. 2, while
Christian Huntley and
Johnny Colmenero completed the doubles sweep against Bo Bayless and Carson Ogilbee at No. 3.
That consistency continued throughout the singles lineup. Seidel earned a 6–1, 6–4 victory over Dick at No. 1, while Azehaf surrendered just one game in a 6–1, 6–0 win against Hinkle at No. 2. At No. 3, Alvado faced the closest opening set of the afternoon against Borges Machado. After securing the tiebreak 7–5, he carried that momentum into a dominant second set to finish with a 7–6 (5), 6–0 victory.
The Eagles were equally effective in the remaining positions. Peron defeated Prochazka 6–1, 6–1 at No. 4, and
Manuel Espinal delivered an identical score against Ogilbee at No. 5. Huntley completed the official singles sweep at No. 6, following a competitive 6–4 opening set against Will Mahoney with a 6–0 second set. Across the six singles matches, OKWU won every set and conceded only two games combined in the final three second sets.
Beyond the official lineup, four additional singles matches provided more Eagles with valuable match experience. Cash Harrison earned an 8–4 victory over Bayless, adding another win to the afternoon's results.
Zach Draper fell 3–8 to Ogilbee,
Trey Rose lost 5–8 to Bayless, and Sam Battiest fell 0–8 to Mahoney. Although these extra matches did not count toward the team score, they extended the competitive opportunities for the men's roster and gave the coaching staff additional performances to evaluate heading into offseason training.
Women's Tennis
The women's team controlled the matchup from the outset, winning every contested match in straight sets or a single doubles set. Strong performances at the top two doubles positions secured the opening point, while defaults at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles contributed to the final 7–0 result.
Rocio Espinal and
Jewel Henderson set the tone with a 6–0 victory over Arianny Sira and Annelise Dunn at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2,
Madeline Henderson and Océane Frendjian followed with a 6–1 win against Kaiya Dobson and Madilyn Smith. With
Nancy Henderson and
Yelena Sanchez receiving a default at No. 3, the Eagles entered singles with the doubles point secured and momentum on their side.
Espinal carried that strong start into the top singles position, defeating Sira 6–0, 6–0 without dropping a game in either singles or doubles.
Jewel Henderson also delivered a convincing performance at No. 2, opening with a 6–0 set before completing a 6–0, 6–2 victory over Dunn. Frendjian strengthened the Eagles' advantage at No. 3, defeating Dobson 6–2, 6–0 to finish her afternoon with wins in both formats.
The depth of the women's lineup remained evident in the remaining matches. Sanchez posted a steady 6–2, 6–2 victory over Karen Torres at No. 4, while
Nancy Henderson defeated Smith 6–1, 6–2 at No. 5.
Madeline Henderson received the No. 6 singles victory by default, rounding out the shutout. Across the five contested singles matches, the Eagles conceded just 11 games, providing a strong finish to their fall campaign.
Under Head Coach
Julia Mongin and Assistant Coach Clément Martin-Dardaine, both teams now transition into offseason practices and workouts. The victories over John Brown provide a positive foundation as the Eagles continue developing their games and preparing for the spring dual-match season.
