Box Score 2 Fort Worth, Texas –
The Women's Volleyball team was on the road the weekend of November 8
th to Fort Worth, Texas for the Texas Wesleyan University Invitational. Heading into a two-game weekend, the Lady Eagles were set to face off against the Texas Wesleyan University Lady Rams and the University of North Texas at Dallas Lady Trailblazers.
Game 1 vs. Texas Wesleyan University (Loss, 78-63)
Starting off strong in the 1
st quarter, the Lady Eagles only trailed by 5 after the first 10 minutes, as they looked to gain momentum with the 30 minutes of play left. Picking up their defense in the second, the Lady Eagles held the Lady Rams to 18 points over their 23 points in the first. Trailing 40-32 entering the second half, the Lady Eagles had their best quarter yet in the third, outscoring the Lady Rams 20-11. With a strong third quarter, the Lady Eagles were unable to overcome the deficit form the first half and fell to the Lady Rams 78-63.
Zariah Tillman was superb for against the Lady Rams, accumulating 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals in her 39 minutes of play. Along with the previous, Tillman went 5-5 from the free throw line and shot 43% in the paint.
Haley Meely and
Rashaan Smith followed closely behind Tillman with 16 and 12 points from the two.
Game 2 vs. University of North Texas at Dallas (Loss, 70-69)
An explosive first quarter from the Lady Eagles resulted in a 19-9 lead over the Lady Trailblazers. Looking quick and strong in the paint, the Lady Eagles took their largest lead of the game with 2 minutes left of play in the first. A 10 point lead in the first allowed the Lady Eagles to control the game through the remainder of the first half, even after a strong second quarter from their opponent. Entering the second half with a 35-30 lead, the Lady Eagles put up 19 in the third, while the Lady Trailblazers were able to secure 25 points and the lead. After multiple lead changes and grit, the Lady Eagles fell 70-69.
Three Lady Eagles were strong for their team in their time on the court;
Zariah Tillman,
Haley Meely, and
Khassidy Warr. Scoring 42 of the Lady Eagles 69 points, the three were fierce in the paint and allowed opportunity with every possession for the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Eagles are back in action o November 16
th, as they look to open up conference play against the Tabor College Lady Bluejays here in Bartlesville, Oklahoma!
