The #16 Men's Basketball team hosted the Avila University Eagles on December 4
th for an exciting KCAC match-up. At tip-off, both teams started the match 3-0 in conference with the hopes to keep their early season conference record undefeated. A constant back and forth battle between the two, the OKWU Eagles were able to overcome adversity in the first half, rally together and take the game in the late 83-76.
Jaden Lietzke started the game off strong for OKWU, scoring the first 8 points for the Eagles, completely dominating in the paint. After frequent lead changes, OKWU trailed after the first 20 minutes 46-41 to Avila. With a couple of Eagles out due to injury, the Eagles were forced to come out of the locker room strong in order to take the game back. Doing just that, the Eagles picked up their offense and increased their defense in order to outscore Avila 42-30 in the second half, giving them the game 83-76.
3 Eagles were in double-digit scoring tonight,
Jaden Lietzke (14),
Derrick Talton Jr. (11), and
Dylan Phillip (16). An all-around team effort, 12 Eagles were on the board in the close win. Defensively, Talton Jr. was once against excellent, accumulating 4 steals and 8 rebounds on the night.
The Eagles hit the road this upcoming Saturday to Sterling, Kansas to face off against the Sterling College Warriors for a 5:00PM tip-off.
