#13 Volleyball Upsets #7 Columbia College

The #13 Lady Eagles Volleyball team opened season on August 20th with a trip to Columbia College for the Columbia College Tri-Match. Set to face off against the Missouri Valley College Warriors and the #7 Columbia College Cougars, the Lady Eagles were eager to get back on the court for the 2024 season.

Game 1 vs. Missouri Valley College
25-21,25-21,25-21

Facing off against MOVAL in game of the tri-match, the Lady Eagles started out on top against the Lady Warriors and only gave up a lead to them one single time in three sets of play. Defeating MOVAL in 3 sets with three 25-21 sets, Evelyn Rohrberg and Mia Lietzke were crucial offensively in the win. Combining for 26 of the 46 total kills, the two were outstanding on the court in their time of play.

Defensively, Jordan Isbell, Valeria Perez, and Sydney Collings were stellar in the back court with a combined 20 digs on the day.

Earning their first win on the season, the Lady Eagles were not finished there and were set to face off against the #7 Columbia College Cougars right after this game.

Game 2 vs. #7 Columbia College
25-13, 25-21, 25-16

Heading into a Top 15 match-up, the Lady Eagles came off of a sweep against MOVAL and looked to be highly competitive against the #7 ranked Columbia College Cougars.

Taking complete control in the first set, the Lady Eagles gained momentum over the Lady Cougars early with 3 back-to back- to back blocks from Reese Parris. Taking the first set in exciting fashion 25-13 and were confident and quick to the punch in set 2.

Taking set two 25-21 and set three 25-16, the Lady Eagles upset the #7 Lady Cougars and made history with a first ever win over a Top 10 opponent. Mia Lietzke and Evelyn Rohrberg were once against stellar for the Lady Eagles, combining for 25 kills in 3 sets.  

Sydney Collins was superb for the Lady Eagles as the starting setter, ended her night with 35 assists and 13 digs.

UPCOMING EVENTS
The #13 Lady Eagles are back in action tomorrow at 3PM on the road to face off against the #11 Missouri Baptist University.
