The #6 Men's Soccer team hosted the #14 MidAmerica Christian University Evangels for a Top 15 Pre-Season match-up on September 13
th. Looking to be an exciting match-up, as always between the two teams, the 90-minute match-up was a back and forth dog fight between the two teams.
Starting off with great defensive outings from both, the first goal came off the foot of
Kirill Pakhomov at 26:50 from 10 yards out of the box due to a foul by the Evangels. Giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead, the Evangel rallied back quickly, earning a successful penalty shot in the 33
rd minute of the game.
Ending the first half of a rather chipper game, both teams looked to overcome and break the tie in order to secure a Top 15 victory with 45 minutes of play left. Another 10 minutes of sharp defense from both teams drove the Eagles to the box in order to score their second goal of the game. In the 55
th minute, off the foot of
Nikita Pakhomov and assisted by Nemenja Vukovic; the Eagles took back the lead over the Evangels 2-1 with 25 minutes of play.
Speeding up the pace of every drive resulted in tough effort and even stronger defense than prior. Outshooting the Evangels 12 to 4 resulted in a 2-1 win for the Eagles. An Eagles win thanks to the Pakhomov brothers and the Eagles stellar defensive display.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, September 18
th to open conference against the Southwestern College Moundbuilders for a 7:30PM.
