A big Top 15 home opener match-up on September 14
th for the #14 Women's Soccer team, the Lady Eagles were facing off against the #12 John Brown University Golden Eagles.
Looking to be a pretty solid match-up between the two, both teams showed up to the plate defensively and were strong throughout the 90 minutes of play. With control of the ball being back and forth in the first half, John Brown was only allowed 3 shots from the Lady Eagles defense while the Lady Eagles took no shots in the first half.
Coming out of half time 0-0, the Lady Eagles picked up the pace offensively and started to move the ball around in order to take more shots and challenge the John Brown defense. Taking 8 shots in the second half with 6 on goal, the Lady Eagles put together a scoring drive in the 85
th minute with a solo goal from
Alana Doherty.
With John Brown unable to come back in the final 10 minutes, the Lady Eagle secured the upset and Top 15 victory.
Carlota Alcalde was superb in goal for the Lady Eagles, ending the game with a clean slate and 4 saves.
The Lady Eagles are back in action for a conference opener match-up against the Southwestern College Moundbuilders this upcoming Wednesday for a 5PM tip-off.
