The #1 Men's Soccer team hosted the University of Saint Mary Spires on October 15
th for a midseason conference match-up. Looking to stay on top of the KCAC rankings, the Eagles needed to start off strong against a good Spire offense.
A back and forth game until the fifteenth minute when the Eagles erupted. Scoring their first of three goals at 15:27, the Eagles put together a strong drive upfield to force a corner and score off the corner kick from
Luis Vergara. Taking multiple shots back to back led to a shot and goal from
Biel Campos, unassisted due to it deflecting off the post from a shot prior to. Scoring one final goal of the half,
Luis Vergara took a shot from 15 meters out of the box, hitting the top right corner for the Eagles.
Entering the final 45 minutes of play, the Eagles led 3-0 with intention to score more. Doing just that, they went on to score four more goals in 35 minutes thanks to a penalty kick from
Julian Tovar,
Luis Vergara, and
Carter Ligi.
Luis Vergara led the Eagles offensively and defensively on the night, scoring an impressive three goals as a defender and earning himself a hat trick. Taking home another conference win with a score of 9-1, the Eagles improve to 10-0-3 overall and 8-0-1 in conference play.
The Eagles hit the road this upcoming Saturday, October 18
th to Salina, Kansas to face off against the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes.
