Hillsboro, KS —
Oklahoma Wesleyan men's basketball opened KCAC play in impressive fashion Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 96–78 win over Tabor College behind elite three-point shooting and strong contributions from a deep, balanced rotation.
The Eagles, now 4–1 overall and 1–0 in KCAC play, came out locked in on both ends of the floor, scoring the game's first seven points and immediately forcing turnovers. OKWU's defensive pressure created multiple runouts, including a steal and a dunk from Jaden Wilson that energized the bench and helped push the lead into double digits.
Once the offense settled in, the Eagles caught fire from beyond the arc. Sophomore Isaac Stanek delivered 13 points with three first-half triples, while Angel Hidalgos added 12 points and knocked down multiple threes of his own. Nick Bene and Temaje Izuagbe added more perimeter scoring to stretch the gap, and OKWU's full rotation continued to create problems for the Bluejays on both ends of the floor. By halftime, the Eagles held a commanding 55–32 lead.
Tabor made a brief push early in the second half with a pair of threes, but OKWU responded immediately. Bene scored on strong drives to the rim, Izuagbe connected on momentum-stopping threes, and the Eagles maintained control throughout the final 20 minutes.
Bene led Oklahoma Wesleyan with 16 points on an efficient 6-of-10 shooting effort while adding four rebounds. Stanek scored 13 points, Hidalgos finished with 12, and Malachi Okunbor added 9. Yashi McKenzie provided 8 points at the rim, and Izuagbe totaled 11 points along with five assists to pace the offense.
Defensively, OKWU forced 19 turnovers, converting them into 28 points, and never trailed while building the lead to as many as 28. The Eagles will look to carry that momentum into Wednesday's road matchup at Friends University in Wichita.
