WICHITA, Kan. —
Oklahoma Wesleyan men's basketball overcame a halftime deficit to secure an 83-77 win over Friends University on Wednesday night, improving to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in KCAC play.
The Eagles trailed 45-37 at the break but stormed back with a dominant second half, outscoring the Falcons 46-32. OKWU shot 52.9% from the field after halftime and finished the game at 47% overall, while holding Friends to just 32.3% shooting in the final period.
Temaje Izuagbe led the charge with a double-double, posting 14 points and 12 rebounds. Malachi Okundor provided a spark off the bench with 14 points, including three clutch three-pointers.
Yashi McKenzie added 13 points and four boards. The Eagles' depth proved crucial, as the bench contributed 36 points.
OKWU dominated key aspects to seal the win. The Eagles shot 47% from the floor compared to Friends' 43.3%, and their accuracy from beyond the arc 41.2% outpaced the Falcons' 39.4%. OKWU also controlled the glass with a 43-31 rebounding advantage and converted 70% of their free throws, while limiting Friends to just 32.3% shooting in the second half. That combination of shooting efficiency and rebounding power proved decisive in the comeback victory.
