Women’s Basketball Battles Hard in Road Loss to Friends University

Wichita, Kansas — 

The Oklahoma Wesleyan University Lady Eagles basketball team dropped a competitive road matchup on Wednesday night, falling 69 to 60 to Friends University in KCAC play. With this result, the Lady Eagles move to 4 and 3 overall and 0 and 2 in conference play. 

Friends opened the game with an 18 to 13 lead after the first quarter and carried a 33 to 25 advantage into halftime after another steady scoring period. OKWU responded with its strongest stretch in the third quarter, outscoring Friends 18 to 17 and trimming the deficit to 50 to 43 entering the final frame. The Lady Eagles continued to challenge in the fourth quarter, but Friends converted key opportunities late to secure the win. 

Three players reached double figures for OKWU. Taliyah Harris led the way with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Khassidy Warr posted a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 7 for 13 from the field. Gracie Alexander added 12 points and 3 assists in 37 minutes. 

Ashlyn Baker recorded 5 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 block, while Khamille Warr added 6 points and 7 rebounds. Off the bench, Kamryn Phoenix, Katelyn Penner, and Sophia Regalado combined for 7 points. 

As a team, the Lady Eagles collected 40 rebounds, including 19 on the offensive glass, and shot 87 percent from the free throw line. 

Oklahoma Wesleyan returns home on Saturday to host Kansas Wesleyan in another KCAC matchup.
