OKWU men's basketball defended their home court with a strong 76-69 win over MidAmerica Nazarene at the Mueller Sports Center.
The Eagles came out hot, building a 12-point halftime lead behind sharp shooting and aggressive defense. Despite a second-half push from the Pioneers, OKWU held firm to secure the victory and bounce back from their previous loss this past weekend. The Eagles are now 2-1 on the season and look to use this win to create momentum as early season is underway.
Humberto Kentish Jr led all scorers with 17 points, including 2 for 2 from 3PT range, while Temaje Izuagbe added 13 points shooting a solid 50% on the night. Yashi McKenzie and Malachi both contributed scoring that helped this eagles get ahead with 10 points each. The eagles across the board operated and executed as a team and that is what helped secure this win over the Pioneers.
Defensively the Eagles put on a clinic scoring 14 points off turnovers compared to Pioneers 4 points while also holding the game to just two leaded changes with the Pinoneers largest lead only reaching 3 points. Relentless defensive and play-making was on full display for the Eagles and that really showed as the game entered the last minutes of the game. The Eagles impressive offensive ability combined with their overwhelming defense made them a tough team to beat.
