Men’s Basketball Takeover Second Half to Defeat Avila 71-56

KANSAS CITY, MO. —

OKWU men's basketball team continued its strong start to the season with a commanding 71-56 road victory over Avila University on Wednesday night in Kansas City.

After a tightly contested first half that ended in a 39-39 tie, the Eagles took control in the second half, outscoring the Eagles of Avila 32-17. OKWU's defensive intensity and rebounding proved to be the deference maker, as they forced 22 turnovers and converted them into 22 points.

Temaje Izuagbe led the charge with a phenomenal performance, posting a double-double of 26 points and 16 rebounds, while shooting 9-of-19 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. Jaden Wilson added a spark off the bench with 9 points and 4 steals, and Nick Bene contributed 7 points and a team-high 5 assists.

The Eagles shot 45% from beyond the arc and 77.8% from the free-throw line, while holding Avila to just 24% from three-point range. OKWU also controlled the glass with a 47-29 rebounding advantage.

With the win, Oklahoma Wesleyan remains unbeaten in conference play and will look to extend its streak in the next matchup as they face-off against Sterling College at home on December 6th, at 3:00 PM. Go Eagles!
