The RV Men's Basketball team hosted the Ottawa University Braves on February 13
th for a conference rematch, where the Eagles took the last match-up in smooth fashion. Looking to remain on top of the KCAC leader board, the Eagles needed to come out shooting against a quick paced Ottawa team.
Starting off as expected, both teams kept a fast pace throughout the first 20 minutes of play; as they battled back and forth in possessions in drives in the paint. Coming out slightly ahead after the first half, the Braves took the 35-34 lead heading into the locker room.
Back on the court for the second, the Eagles went on to score the first 7 points of the half, taking the early 42-35 lead. Trailing, the Braves picked up the pace in order to create turnovers and second chance points, taking the score to a 47-46 lead in favor of the Eagles with 14 minutes left on the clock. Back to a tied ball game with 10:35 on the clock, both teams were defensively sound with a score of 53-53. Taking the 62-58 lead from a jump shot by
Derrick Talton Jr., the Braves took a timeout with 7 minutes left to play. The Eagles looked dominant with 7 minutes left, leading to a 83-76 win over the Braves.
Leading the Eagles was yet again,
Jaden Lietzke with his third consecutive double-double, accumulating 17 rebounds and 16 points. Along with Lietzke,
Yashi McKenzie (18),
Nick Bene (18), and
DJ Talton Jr. (13) were superb for the Eagles.
The Eagles are on the road this upcoming Saturday as they head to York, Nebraska for a conference match-up against the York University Panthers.
