Talton Jr. & Stanek Score 28 in Quarterfinal Win Over Evangel

In a commanding start to the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament, the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles secured a decisive 100-81 victory over the Evangel University Valor on February 26th , 2025.
The Eagles, who clinched their fourth consecutive KCAC regular-season championship with a 22-6 overall record and a 19-3 mark in conference play, entered the postseason on a 13-game winning streak.

Senior guard Derrick Talton Jr. delivered an outstanding performance, leading all scorers with 28 points, complemented by seven assists and four steals. His back court partner, Isaac Stanek, matched his 28-point output, showcasing exceptional accuracy from beyond the arc with seven three-pointers. Center Jaden Lietzke provided a strong interior presence, contributing 20 points and six rebounds, while converting 10 of 13 free-throw attempts.

The Eagles' offensive efficiency was a key factor in their triumph, as they shot 50.8% from the field and an impressive 50% from three-point range. Their defensive tenacity also played a crucial role, forcing turnovers that translated into 25 points. Despite a resilient effort from the Valor, who briefly held a 72-70 lead midway through the second half, OKWU's depth and experience allowed them to regain control and close the game on a decisive 13-1 run.

With home-court advantage throughout the conference tournament, the Eagles are poised to continue their impressive postseason run as they will face off against 4th seed Bethel College next on March 1st, 2025 @ 2PM. Go Eagles!
