The Oklahoma Wesleyan Lady Eagles hit the road to Salem, Oregon, this past weekend to compete in the Hampton Inn Classic hosted by Corban University. Over two days of action, the Lady Eagles faced four opponents and finished the event with a 3-1 record, moving to 7-1 on the season.Â
On day one, Oklahoma Wesleyan opened play against Carroll College (Mont.) and came away with a four-set victory, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21. The Lady Eagles leaned on outside hitter Evelyn Rohrberg, tallying 18 kills, while Maia Rubio added 12. Setter Sydney Collins had 44 assists and 12 digs, and libero Maria Luisa Caycedo protected the back row with 22 digs.Â
In their second match of the day, the Lady Eagles faced off against Bushnell University and swept the Beacons in three straight sets. Rohrberg once again led the attack with 16 kills, while Rubio finished with 14. Collins directed the offense with 41 assists, and Caycedo posted 12 digs to anchor the defense. Oklahoma Wesleyan controlled the net throughout the match, limiting Bushnell's chances and closing out the day 2-0.Â
Day two began with the Lady Eagles taking on Our Lady of the Lake University, and Oklahoma Wesleyan wasted no time earning another sweep, 25-20, 25-12, 25-20. Rohrberg was dominant with 18 kills, hitting a .438 hitting percentage, while Rubio added 10 more. Collins collected 29 assists, and Caycedo dug 18 balls. At the net, middle blockers Tijana Stojiljkovic and Anuhea Aukai combined for eight blocks.Â
In their final match of the tournament, the Lady Eagles faced host #3 Corban University. Despite a hard-fought effort, Oklahoma Wesleyan lost the match in three straight sets, 21-25, 20-25, 20-25. Evelyn Rohrberg led the Eagles with 9 kills, while Tijana Stojiljkovic was close behind with 7 kills, hitting .353 and earning 5 blocks. Anuhea Aukai added 5 kills and hit .500 percent. Unfortunately, the Lady Eagles were unable to slow down Corban's balanced team, taking their first loss of the season.Â
Leaving Oregon 3-1, Oklahoma Wesleyan displayed both offensive power and defensive toughness to continue their strong start to the 2025 season. The Lady Eagles return home to Bartlesville this week for their home opener on Wednesday, September 3, at 6 pm.Â
