Women's Volleyball Sweep at Parkville, Taking Down Park and No. 6 Northwestern

The Oklahoma Wesleyan University Lady Eagles volleyball team came away with a statement weekend in Parkville, Missouri, claiming back-to-back wins over host Park University and No. 6-ranked Northwestern on Saturday. With the two victories, OKWU improves to 12-1 on the season and extends its winning streak to five matches. 

Match 1: OKWU Defeats Park 3–1 (25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 29-27) 

Behind a balanced offensive attack and a relentless back row, the Lady Eagles opened the day with a four-set win over Park University. Senior outside hitter Evelyn Rohrberg led the way with 23 kills and two block assists, while Maia Rubio chipped in 14 kills and 16 digs. 

Setter Sydney Collins orchestrated the offense to near perfection, dishing out 56 assists while adding 11 digs and two service aces. Maria Sanra Cruz was a difference maker at the net with 14 kills and three block assists. Libero Maria Luisa Caycedo anchored the back row with 17 digs. 

The Lady Eagles hit .252 as a team while holding Park to a .221 mark, finishing the match with 67 digs and seven total team blocks. After dropping the third set, OKWU rallied to take the fourth dramatically, 29-27, to seal the victory. 

Match 2: OKWU Upsets No. 6 Northwestern 3–1 (25-18, 26-24, 21-25, 25-16) 

OKWU followed up with an even bigger performance, knocking off nationally ranked Northwestern in four sets. Rohrberg again led the way with 23 kills while hitting .304. Maria Sanra Cruz added a stellar 19 kills on a .444 hitting percentage, and Sydney Collins tallied another 56 assists along with 17 digs and two service aces. 

Defensively, Maria Luisa Caycedo posted an impressive 29 digs, with Valeria Perez and Maia Rubio contributing double-digit digs as well. The Lady Eagles dug 94 balls in total, limiting Northwestern to just .115 hitting on the day. 

After a tightly contested third set, OKWU stormed through the fourth set 25-16 to close out the upset. The win marked one of the program's biggest victories of the season to date. 

With two road victories, including a top 10 upset, the Lady Eagles head into the heart of their schedule with renewed confidence and a 12-1 overall record. Oklahoma Wesleyan will now return home to Mueller Sports Center for their conference opener against Ottawa University on Wednesday, September 24th at 6:00 PM.
