Nielsen's Late Strike Lifts Lady Eagles Past McPherson, 1-0, to Remain Unbeaten in KCAC Play

Women's Soccer

MCPHERSON, Kan. – The Oklahoma Wesleyan University women's soccer team continued its dominant run through Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) competition Saturday afternoon, securing a hard-fought 1-0 road victory over McPherson College. A late second-half goal from Frederikke Nielsen proved to be the difference as the Lady Eagles extended their conference winning streak and remained unbeaten in KCAC play.

Entering the matchup with momentum on their side, Oklahoma Wesleyan looked to establish possession and dictate the tempo against a competitive McPherson squad. The opening 45 minutes featured a defensive battle, with both sides working to create opportunities in the attacking third. The Lady Eagles generated four first-half shots while limiting the Bulldogs to just two attempts, but neither team managed to break the deadlock before halftime.

Coming out of the break, Oklahoma Wesleyan increased its attacking pressure, controlling possession and pushing numbers forward in search of the breakthrough. The Lady Eagles registered 10 second-half shots and earned four corner kicks, consistently challenging McPherson's back line and forcing the Bulldogs to defend deep in their own half.

The decisive moment came in the 80th minute when Frederikke Nielsen found the back of the net at the 79:42 mark, finishing an attacking opportunity set up by Alexis Aguirre. Nielsen's clinical strike broke the scoreless tie and gave Oklahoma Wesleyan the crucial 1-0 advantage with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

With the lead secured, the Lady Eagles relied on their defensive organization and composure to see out the match. Oklahoma Wesleyan's back line remained disciplined, shutting down McPherson's attacking opportunities and preventing the Bulldogs from generating sustained pressure in the final third.

Goalkeeper Leona Kraus anchored the defensive effort, playing all 90 minutes between the posts and recording three saves to preserve the clean sheet. The Lady Eagles' defensive unit held McPherson to just three total shots, including only one attempt in the second half, highlighting Oklahoma Wesleyan's ability to control the match on both sides of the ball.

Offensively, Oklahoma Wesleyan outshot McPherson 14-3, placing seven attempts on frame. Ashley Perez led the attacking effort with four shots, including two on target, while Mesa Broquard added three attempts. Nielsen finished with two shots, both on goal, including the match-winning finish. Macy Butler and Isabelle Simoneau each contributed two shots as the Lady Eagles maintained consistent pressure throughout the contest.

The Lady Eagles also held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks, demonstrating their ability to create scoring opportunities through sustained possession and attacking movement.

The victory showcased Oklahoma Wesleyan's ability to grind out results in tightly contested conference matchups. After a scoreless opening half, the Lady Eagles responded with an aggressive second-half performance, combining timely finishing with a disciplined defensive effort to secure another important three points on the road.

With the win, Oklahoma Wesleyan improves to 9-2-2 overall and 8-0-0 in KCAC play, continuing its unbeaten conference campaign. The Lady Eagles will look to carry their momentum forward as they continue their pursuit of a KCAC regular-season title.
