The OKWU Eagles Surge Past Mission, 14-4

Box Score

Joplin, MO-

Oklahoma Wesleyan exploded late to run away from Mission, 14–4, on Tuesday, February 17, powered by a six-run seventh and a four-run eighth.

First baseman W. Diaz set the tone and then slammed the door, launching a two-run homer in the first and a solo shot in the eighth as part of a 3-for-5, 3-RBI night. The Eagles jumped ahead 4-0 after two innings and finished with 11 hits while taking advantage of three Mission errors.

The Eagles broke a 4-4 tie in the seventh with a barrage: J. Parreno ripped an RBI double to center, A. Quiles followed with an RBI double, J. Fernandez added a sacrifice bunt to plate a run, and B. Pointdexter punched an RBI single as the Eagles put up six runs in the frame. In the eighth, Diaz's second homer was the spark again before B. Caldwell hit a two-run single to center, capping a four-run inning that put the game out of reach.

Quiles reached base four times and drove in a run, while shortstop J. Maloney posted two hits and two RBIs. Parreno finished with a run-scoring double, and Caldwell delivered those two late insurance RBIs in his lone at-bat.

On the mound, A. Brothers worked 3.1 innings to open the game, and a committee of relievers carried it home, highlighted by J. Stangl's dominant close: 2.0 scoreless, hitless innings with four strikeouts. The Eagles' staff held Mission to four hits on the night.
