Men’s Basketball Secures Conference Win at Sterling

Sterling, KS —
The Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles delivered a strong showing on the road Saturday night, defeating Sterling College 80–70. With the win, the Eagles move to 21–3 overall on the season.

Oklahoma Wesleyan established control early, knocking down shots from the perimeter and playing with pace offensively. The Eagles used an efficient start to create separation midway through the opening half and never trailed, building a comfortable advantage behind balanced scoring and solid defensive pressure. By halftime, OKWU had built a 51–29 lead after shooting nearly 59 percent from the floor and connecting from deep at an impressive rate.

Sterling found more rhythm after the break and worked to chip away at the deficit with improved shooting and second-chance opportunities. The Warriors put together several scoring runs throughout the second half, but Oklahoma Wesleyan remained composed and answered with timely baskets to maintain its lead. Consistent production across the lineup and strong bench play helped the Eagles keep control through the final minutes.

Oklahoma Wesleyan finished the game shooting 47.4 percent from the field and 43.5 percent from three-point range while forcing 15 turnovers. The Eagles' depth proved valuable, as the bench contributed 47 points in the victory.

Marshall Gillette led the Eagles with 12 points, while Tamaje Izuagbe added 11 and Malachi Okunbor finished with nine. Ethan Williams chipped in eight points and four rebounds, and Nick Bene grabbed a team-high six boards to support the overall effort.

Next up, the Eagles head to Ottawa on Wednesday for another conference game.
