Sterling, KS —
The Oklahoma Wesleyan Lady Eagles battled through a physical road contest Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell to Sterling College, 62–52.
OKWU showed early energy on both ends of the floor, trading baskets with the Warriors throughout the opening minutes. A late push from the Lady Eagles helped keep things even through most of the first quarter before Sterling used a final three-pointer to take an 18–15 edge heading into the second.
The Warriors gradually created separation in the second quarter, stringing together efficient offensive possessions to stretch the lead. Oklahoma Wesleyan continued to fight on the glass and generate extra opportunities, but Sterling carried a 37–27 advantage into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Lady Eagles delivered their strongest stretch of the game. A quick scoring run highlighted by a Gracie Alexander three-pointer and defensive pressure from Kamryn Phoenix helped Oklahoma Wesleyan trim the deficit to just a few possessions midway through the third. Sterling responded with timely baskets of its own, however, and held a 52–40 lead entering the final quarter.
Oklahoma Wesleyan continued to compete down the stretch, cutting into the margin and forcing tough possessions defensively, but the Warriors maintained control in the closing minutes to secure the 62–52 result.
Phoenix and Khassidy Warr paced the Lady Eagles with 11 points each, while Ashlyn Baker added seven. Jaclyn Lara and Khassidy Warr each pulled down six rebounds as Oklahoma Wesleyan finished with 20 second-chance points and shot 90 percent from the free-throw line. Sterling's efficiency from the floor and presence on the boards ultimately made the difference.
The Lady Eagles will be back on the road Wednesday as they travel to Ottawa for another KCAC matchup.
