Wichita, KS —
The Oklahoma Wesleyan softball team split its conference-opening doubleheader on Wednesday at Friends University, falling 3–2 in a tight first game before bouncing back with a dominant 7–1 victory in game two.
In the opener, the Lady Eagles struck first in the top of the first inning as Kami Withem launched a solo home run to give OKWU an early 1–0 lead. Friends responded in the fourth inning with a two-run frame, capitalizing on an error to take the lead. The Falcons added another run in the sixth to extend their advantage.
Oklahoma Wesleyan continued to battle, cutting the deficit to one in the seventh after an RBI single from Withem scored Abby Huie, but the comeback fell just short as Friends held on for the 3–2 win. The Lady Eagles finished with nine hits in the contest, led by Withem's two-hit, two-RBI performance.
Game two told a different story as Oklahoma Wesleyan responded with energy on both sides of the ball. After trailing 1–0 early, the Lady Eagles took control in the third inning with a two-RBI single from Gracie Jones to claim the lead.
OKWU continued to build momentum, adding two more runs in the fifth before breaking the game open in the sixth with a three-run inning highlighted by RBI efforts from Kami Withem, Raegan Rector, and a triple from Maria Fory. The Lady Eagles totaled 10 hits in the win, with Fory going 3-for-4 and driving in two runs, while Jones also contributed two RBIs.
In the circle, Yina Vargas delivered a strong performance, allowing just one run across six innings to secure the win.
With the split, Oklahoma Wesleyan moves to 16–6 overall and 1–1 in conference play as the Lady Eagles continue KCAC competition. They will be back in action Saturday as they travel to face York University in another conference matchup.
