The Oklahoma Wesleyan softball team completed a dominant doubleheader sweep over York University on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 11–6 before erupting for a 13–8 win in game two.
Game One
York struck first in the opener, capitalizing on an error and an RBI single to take an early 2–0 lead in the first inning. The Lady Eagles responded in the second when Gracie Jones launched a solo home run to cut the deficit in half. Oklahoma Wesleyan continued to build momentum in the third inning, as Maria Fory delivered an RBI double before Jones added another RBI single to give OKWU a 3–2 advantage.
After York tied the game in the bottom of the third, the Lady Eagles answered in the fourth behind a solo home run from Abby Huie to regain the lead. Oklahoma Wesleyan added a run in the fifth before breaking the game open in the sixth.
The Lady Eagles plated three runs in the sixth inning with key contributions from Huie, Kami Withem, and Fory, pushing the lead to 8–4. Oklahoma Wesleyan added three more runs in the seventh to secure the 11–6 victory.
Offensively, Oklahoma Wesleyan totaled 14 hits in game one, led by Maria Fory who went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two doubles. Raegan Rector added three hits, while Abby Huie and Gracie Jones each homered to pace the offense.
In the circle, Abigail Rogers earned the win in relief, tossing 4.1 innings while allowing just one earned run and striking out five. Gabby Simpson got the start as the duo combined to hold York to six runs on six hits.
Game Two
The Lady Eagles carried that momentum into game two, delivering an explosive offensive performance to complete the sweep.
Oklahoma Wesleyan struck early, plating runs in the first and third innings before extending the lead in the fifth behind RBI hits from Maria Fory and Aubrie Matthews. York responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, but the Lady Eagles answered in a big way in the sixth.
OKWU erupted for six runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a three-RBI triple from Maddie Ogle that broke the game open. Additional RBI contributions from Bailey Gustus, Brooklyn Purtell, and Fory helped stretch the lead to 10–2 before York mounted a late push.
York answered with five runs in the sixth to close the gap, but Oklahoma Wesleyan responded once again in the seventh. The Lady Eagles added three insurance runs behind RBIs from Ogle, Abby Huie, and Kami Withem to put the game out of reach.
Oklahoma Wesleyan finished with 21 hits in game two, led by Brooklyn Purtell who went a perfect 5-for-5 with two RBIs. Maria Fory added three hits and three RBIs, while Maddie Ogle drove in four runs in the win. Bailey Gustus and Abby Huie each contributed multi-hit performances as part of the offensive surge.
In the circle, Yina Vargas earned the win, throwing five innings and striking out five. She was supported by Madison Treadwell and Addison Dorsay, who combined to close out the game despite York's late rally.
The Lady Eagles host Southwestern College for a double header Tuesday March 24th at 2:00 PM and 4:00PM.
