Softball Celebrates Senior Day with Doubleheader Sweep

Bartlesville, OK —

Oklahoma Wesleyan softball celebrated Senior Day in dominant fashion on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping Southwestern College in a conference doubleheader with 10-0 and 11-0 run-rule victories to improve to 20-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

The Lady Eagles came out strong in game one and never looked back. Oklahoma Wesleyan jumped on the board in the first inning with an RBI double from Kami Withem followed by a two-run home run from Brooklyn Purtell to take an early 3-0 lead. The offense continued to roll in the third inning, plating five runs highlighted by a two-RBI double from Purtell, along with RBI contributions from Gracie Jones, Maddie Ogle, and Jaelynn Huerta

Maria Fory added to the momentum with a two-run home run in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 10-0. Purtell led the way offensively, finishing 3-for-3 with four RBIs, while Fory added two hits and two RBIs of her own, and Withem recorded two hits and an RBI at the top of the lineup. In the circle, Gabby Simpson was dominant, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just four hits and striking out four in the win.

The Lady Eagles carried that momentum into game two, putting together another strong offensive performance in an 11-0 victory. Oklahoma Wesleyan struck early again as Purtell delivered a two-RBI double in the first inning to give the Lady Eagles a quick lead, and the offense stayed consistent throughout, adding two runs in the second, two more in the third, and breaking the game open with a five-run fourth inning.

Purtell continued her standout day with four RBIs, while Fory added two hits and a two-run home run. Lailah Hernandez contributed two RBIs, and Maddie Ogle also drove in a run, while Kami Withem set the tone at the top of the order with two hits and two runs scored as the Lady Eagles totaled 11 hits in the game. Yina Vargas was impressive in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout while allowing just three hits and striking out six to secure the sweep.

The Lady Eagles also honored their five seniors following the doubleheader, celebrating Brooklyn Purtell, Kami Withem, Raegan Rector, Jaelynn Huerta, and Gabby Simpson for their contributions to the program. Oklahoma Wesleyan congratulates these seniors on their time in the program and the strong season they have put together so far. Their leadership, consistency, and impact on and off the field have played a major role in the team's success and will continue to shape the program moving forward.

Oklahoma Wesleyan will return to action on March 28 as they travel to Sterling for a conference doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 and 3:00 PM.
