Game 1: Eagles Take Series Opener Over Sterling, 7–3
OKWU softball opened its two-game series at Sterling College with a 7–3 victory Saturday afternoon, improving to 20–6 on the season.
The Eagles wasted little time getting on the board, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. An RBI sacrifice fly from B. Purtell and an RBI home run by M. Fory gave OKWU an early cushion.
Sterling answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, but the Eagles responded quickly. OKWU added two runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth to regain control of the game.
R. Rector led the Eagles offensively, finishing 3-for-4 with four RBIs, including a pair of two-RBI singles. A, Huie added two hits and scored twice, while M. Fory went 2-for-4 with a home run, RBI, and a stolen base.
In the circle, G. Simpson earned the win, tossing six innings and allowing three runs while striking out seven. A. Rogers worked for a clean seventh inning to close out the victory.
The Eagles totaled 10 hits in the opener and took advantage of Sterling defensive miscues to secure the series lead.
Game 2: Eagles Sweep Sterling with 7–3 Win in Game Two
OKWU softball completed the two-game sweep of Sterling College with a 7–3 victory Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles jumped out early, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. B. Purtell provided the big swing, crushing a three-run home run to left field to give OKWU an immediate advantage.
OKWU continued to add on, plating two more runs in the second inning on a two-RBI double from K. Withem. The Eagles pushed across single runs in the third and fourth innings to extend the lead to 7–0.
Sterling attempted a late rally, scoring one run in the fifth and two more in the seventh, but the Eagles' pitching staff shut the door to secure the win.
B. Purtell led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, a home run, and four RBIs, while K. Withem added two RBIs of her own. A. Huie scored twice and collected a hit, and the Eagles finished the game with 11 hits.
In the circle, Y. Vargas earned the win, striking out seven over 6.2 innings. A. Rogers recorded the final out to close the sweep.
With the two wins, OKWU capped a strong road series and continued conference play riding momentum.
