BARTLESVILLE, OK. —
In one of the most dramatic finishes in KCAC Championship history, the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles claimed the 2026 conference title with a heart-pounding 79-78 victory over Friends University on Tuesday night inside the Mueller Sports Center.
The two powerhouse programs went toe-to-toe from the opening tip, ending the first half deadlocked at 38-38. The second half delivered even more fireworks as both teams traded momentum swings, lead changes, and high-pressure baskets in front of a packed home crowd.
The night belonged to OKWU star Temaje Izuagbe, who delivered fantastic championship performances. Izuagbe poured in 34 points on an ultra-efficient 12-of-16 shooting, including 6-of-8 from three, while also adding five assists, three rebounds, and a steal. His shot-making repeatedly steadied the Eagles during crucial stretches.
Trailing late, Friends surged ahead 78-76, but with under a minute to play, OKWU responded. Ethan Williams drove into the lane and finished a contested layup, drawing a foul. He calmly sank the go-ahead free throw with 24 seconds remaining, giving the Eagles a 79-78 lead.
On the final possession, Friends had a chance to steal the title, but the Eagles' defense held firm. A desperation jumper at the buzzer bounced off the backboard, and Oklahoma Wesleyan erupted in celebration as the home crowd roared.
Beyond Izuagbe's heroics, OKWU saw phenomenal playmaking moments all over the court from Ethan Williams with 12 points, Jaden Wilson with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and a deep bench that produced 23 points. This was key in outlasting a physical Friends squad. The Eagles also shot a stellar 50% from the field and 46% from three, showcasing one of their most balanced offensive outings of the season.
With the victory, Oklahoma Wesleyan improves to 28-3 overall, 17-2 in conference play, and secures the KCAC Championship crown, punching its ticket to the NAIA National Tournament with major momentum and championship confidence.
