OKWU baseball bounced back in a big way, rolling past Evangel University 19–9 on Tuesday afternoon at home to even the three-game series at 1–1.
After Evangel struck first with a solo home run in the opening inning, the Eagles' offense wasted little time responding. The Egles plated five runs over the first two innings highlighted by a three-run triple from W. Diaz and an RBI double by D. Manzanillo along with a home run evening the game 1-1 in the bottom of the 1st to take early control of the contest.
The Eagles continued to add on, pushing the lead to 7–1 through three innings before Evangel mounted an eight-run rally in the sixth to briefly tie the game. OKWU answered immediately, erupting with four runs in the bottom of the sixth and never looking back.
Oklahoma Wesleyan put the game away with decisive late innings, scoring six runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth. W. Diaz delivered the biggest blow, launching a grand slam in the seventh as part of a nine-RBI performance. D. Manzanillo also homered twice and finished with three RBIs, while the Eagles totaled 15 hits in the offensive onslaught.
On the mound, Alan Covarrubias earned the win, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings in relief to help stabilize the game and improve to 8–2 on the season.
With the decisive win, Oklahoma Wesleyan improves to 22–14 overall and 15-10 in conference. This squares the series at one game apiece.
