The Oklahoma Wesleyan baseball team hosted Avila University over the weekend, picking up a dominant 23–2 win in game one before falling 8–5 and 5–4 in the final two contests.
In game one, the Eagles exploded offensively in a 23–2 victory, scoring in five different innings and piling up 20 hits. Oklahoma Wesleyan jumped out early and then broke the game open with a nine-run fourth inning, followed by a seven-run sixth. Multiple Eagles contributed at the plate, including Dylan Krause, who drove in four runs, and Caden Stinson, who added three RBIs and a home run. Mitch Gratwick also highlighted the offensive outburst with a three-run homer, while Brenden Poindexter and Caden Azlin each went deep as well. On the mound, Alex Garcia earned the win with a strong outing, allowing just two runs over six innings.
Game two saw a tighter contest, but a late surge from Avila resulted in an 8–5 loss for the Eagles. OKWU held a 5–2 lead heading into the ninth inning after building momentum through the middle frames, including RBIs from Wally Diaz, JT Maloney, and Joseph Gutierrez. However, Avila rallied in the final inning to take the lead. Diaz led the Eagles offensively with two hits and an RBI, while Daurys Manzanillo added three hits.
In the series finale, Oklahoma Wesleyan dropped a narrow 5–4 decision. The Eagles struck early and built a 4–1 lead through three innings, highlighted by a two-RBI effort from Daurys Manzanillo and RBIs from Caden Stinson. Despite a strong start on the mound from Ashton Luera, who allowed just one run and struck out nine over six innings, Avila used a four-run seventh inning to take control.
Oklahoma Wesleyan will look to bounce back on Tuesday as it prepares for its next matchup against Evangel.
