Springfield, MO —
Oklahoma Wesleyan erased an early deficit and leaned on a big late-game push to take down Evangel, 12–10, on Tuesday afternoon. The win moves the Eagles to 30–16 overall and 21–12 in KCAC play as they approach the final weekend of the regular season.
Evangel controlled the early innings, building a 5–0 lead before OKWU answered in the third when JT Maloney sent a two-run home run over the fence to cut into the deficit. After Evangel added another run, the Eagles came alive in the fifth inning. Daurys Manzanillo led things off with a solo home run, Joseph Gutierrez followed with an RBI double, and Caden Azlin and Jo'elvis Fernandez each drove in runs to cap a four-run inning that evened the score at 6–6.
The Eagles carried that momentum into the later innings, grabbing the lead in the seventh and creating separation in the eighth. Azlin delivered a key moment with a three-run shot as part of a four-run inning that gave OKWU breathing room. Fernandez added another run in the ninth, and both he and Azlin turned in strong performances at the plate, combining for seven RBIs. Maloney also contributed multiple hits and RBIs in the effort.
On the mound, Austin Stephenson provided stability out of the bullpen, working 6.2 innings to earn the win. After Evangel made things interesting in the ninth, Alan Covarrubias came in to finish the job and lock down the save.
